    Kumomusha Clan. Empty Kumomusha Clan.

Post by Gintoki Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:55 am

    Description:

Due to their affinity with arachnids, Kumomusha generally avoid ostentatious colours, instead wearing grey, black, and occasionally a tan hue. Many carry the clan symbol somewhere on their clothing. There is no general outfit the clan wears, other than that all of the clan's upper-wear has six armholes cut into it. This is because the ritual giving the clan member six arms is generally performed at age 8, referring to the 8 limbs of the spider. Eye colour of those born into the clan ranges, but is usually in the brown to green range. The Kumomusha are also known for their beady eyes. The skin tone of the family is quite versatile, ranging from a almost translucent look to an astonishing jet-black. Hair is almost always black or dark brown. There is a 10% chance they will receive a lighter brown, the chance of being blond even less than that.

Being warriors, the Kumomusha are quite cocky. They believe that they are powerful enough to take on any opponent that comes their way. As a result, they also hold grudges for a long time, and believe the only way to settle something is on the field of battle. Although this sounds like a 'typical male,' the females feel this way as well. They are also a tough people, and the clan holds the philosophy 'If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.' No compassion or mercy is shown, either to enemies or companions. Despite this, the Kumomusha are fiercely loyal, upholding any promise or debt to another. This includes relationships, meaning the marriage of a man and woman of he clan is for life. They also believe this leads to more powerful and skilled offspring.

Regardless of anything, there is always a female Kumomusha leader. Even in settlements that have left the greater part of the clan follow this custom. In the larger families, all women are gauged in terms of skill every year. Every lady below the age of 25 is given a numerical value, 1 being the highest. These numbers are constantly updated by one clan member, chosen as statistician. Upon the death of the previous leader, the number 1 is appointed the new leader. The Kumomusha find this is superior to having a savage fight or a democratic vote, as it is the best way to gain a powerful leader. This leader is known as the Widow, both because she is the most powerful female (in a way similar to the most deadly of spiders, the black widow) and because she will not marry. The reasoning behind this is that, should the Widow take a husband, she will no longer be as deadly because her senses will be dulled by love. The will of the Widow is absolute, and she is also considered the one privileged enough to know the clan's most sacred jutsu. Although these can be taught by the Widow herself, nobody can simply take the scrolls for study.

Being warriors, the Kumomusha consider themselves less a family and more an army. In a way, they epitomize shinobi, being without and fierce in battle. However, the clan shares the common ideal that nobody should be left behind, placing comrades above the mission at hand. Despite this show of 'love,' the true intent is simply to preserve the might of the clan by keeping their numbers up. The Kumomusha have a compound in every ninja village which serves as both housing and an embassy, but most live apart from this area. They do still live together, building multi-storied dwellings that will house one clan member's family as well as his entire extended family. The best housing is chosen for the family, the others given to any family who wishes to accept it.

    History:

There are two interpretations of the creation of the Kumomusha; one fantastic, the other more grounded in reality. All children in the family, as well as any joining the clan, are told both tales and allowed to make the choice for themselves. Most believe the two complement each other, and are part of a larger story that was lost to the clan years ago.

The Spider God and the Warrior

Once, there was a man who wished to be a fighter. He was a farmer, close by to a small city, but wished to explore and battle. One day, as he was tending as fields, he was greeted by an old traveler. Although the man was too old to do work and had no money, the man gave him shelter for a night. In return, he was given an old pendant, said to be magical. As the farmer held the necklace in his hand, the shape of a large spider appeared from it. It was the Spider God, the extremely powerful god of arachnids and poisons. He said to the farmer, “I will give you some of my strength, so you will become strike fear into the hearts of all who know you. In return, you must kill at least 100 men every year.” The farmer agreed, and was given great strength.

The man, now a mighty warrior, traveled the vast world, searching for any who would oppose his might. His very strokes could rend the skies, his hands capable of slicing with a blade before the enemy had even see him unsheathe it. The man became a master of the Hachitōryū (Eight Swords) style, and used the Dokuken (Poision Swords) technique as well. The combination of the two was remarkably similar to the abilities of a spider, so he was called the Kumomusha, or Spider Warrior. He killed every enemy that came his way, and ruled atop a kingdom of his foes' skulls in Kumo no Kuni, the Land of Spiders.

In those days, the entire world was joined together in a single mighty continent. The Kumomusha's agents in other countries would do his bidding for him, killing in his name. The once-mighty warrior became lethargic and weak; his blades lost their shine, and he could no longer defeat a man with his hands alone. A year passed, and the Kumomusha had not defeated the 100 men. Angered, the Spider God descended from the heavens, meeting with his disciple.

“Kumomusha, your strength has dulled along with your reflexes. You could not block a single blow, even from a child.' The Spider God then attacked with one of his mighty limbs, ready to end Kumomusha's life. Suddenly, he drew his 8 swords simultaneously, blocking the blows of the mighty god. He revealed that he had been training in secret, waiting to battle the Spider God when he descended to destroy his apprentice. In a long battle, the Spider God was finally defeated, killed completely. Slicing off several of the fallen arachnid's arms, he attached them to his own body, making him the true master of the Spider style.

After this point, Kumomusha was faced with a dilemma. He would not be allowed to enter the home of the gods, since he was not a true immortal. However, his attacks were now so strong that they would split the very earth in two. Making a decision, he used his mightiest blade to slice the land into many pieces, leaving about half of the existing world in a single chunk. Finally, he severed the land bridge joining the Spider Country with the rest of the world. As he began to drift away, he commit seppuku, stabbing open his stomach. When his belly split, many spiders scuttled out, spreading across the country. These spiders grew to become men and women with six arms, the first members of the Kumomusha clan.

    The Sugoi Kumojin

During the Great Ninja War, there was a young man who was part of the village of Cloud. He was an amazing puppeteer, and even served as the Raikage for a time. To fight in this great war, he decided he would have to invent a puppet that would allow him to fight close-range. After only two weeks, he had finished an exoskeleton that would allow him to fight point-blank while protecting himself. It was a six-armed puppet which the young man would stand in, protected by the wood and metal of the mechanisms while able to fight on the front lines. The puppet was equipped with many weapons, and the Raikage later promoted him to Jounin level. The man was called the Sugoi Kumojin (the Amazing Spiderman) or the Kumomusha.

After the war, the young man felt a desire to see the world. He discarded the Kumomusha puppet and became a missing ninja, traveling not to destroy, but to learn from all the great puppeteers of the continent. He learned much, and soon he was known as the supreme puppet master. However, he still yearned for more. Hearing of a great marionette performer in the long-lost Kumo no Kuni, he began work. Streamlining his old Kumomusha puppet, he made the arms movable as well as greatly decreasing the weight of the entire creation. Using it, he 'swam' for days using the puppet. Finally, he discovered the lost island that was the Spider Country.

Although there was no puppeteer, he found an amazing phenomenon: the men and women of the Spider Country all had 6 arms. As the man studied them, they also studied him. The inhabitants referred to him as the Mokuzoujin (Wooden Man). Sadly, the natives were suspicious of this foreigner. In an effort to find out what was wrong, the man consulted the village shaman. The medicine man concluded it was because he lacked the characteristic six arms. In an effort to fix this, he devised a complicated ritual. It would be difficult, but he would soon be just like the indigenous peoples. Using four of the wooden arms of the Kumomusha puppet, he used the ritual to transform the wooden effigies into true arms.

At first the man was overjoyed, seeing the many advantages of having three sets of hands, especially in the field of puppeteering. This joy changed, however, when he learned he would not be allowed to leave the island. The natives had enjoyed life in secrecy for generations. For the man to leave to his homeland would spoil anything. Enraged, the man planned to leave the country in secrecy. As he attempted to escape in a boat, the natives appeared, preparing to follow him in their own boats. As a last-ditch attempt, the man used a Doton jutsu, hoping it would deter his followers. What happened was even more powerful. Magnified three times due to the triple seals created by his six hands, the man did the unthinkable, causing the entire island to sink beneath the waves. The only proof the land had ever existed was a notebook containing several jutsus used by the Spider People, as well as how to perform the ritual.

The man then returned to the mainland, and to his native Cloud village. Few recognized him after the many years, and he was welcomed back with open arms. When he finally took a wife, he performed the ritual on her, bestowing the six arms upon her as well. When the two bore a child, he too was later given the arms. The family was given the surname Kumomusha, deciding it fit best with the powers of the clan. Later, the man's descendants created many more jutsus based around a spider theme, and spread across the continent. A new clan was born....
